A beautiful and highly decorative antique silver mesh evening purse, dating from 1924 and fully hallmarked in London.
The purse has an elegant Art Deco-influenced silver frame, with an intricate articulated silver mesh body and original chain handle. The frame is beautifully decorated with engraved flowing motifs, a central cabochon stone and attractive red cabochon-set decoration to either side. The fine mesh construction catches the light beautifully, showcasing the craftsmanship involved in producing these luxurious early 20th-century evening accessories.
The purse was imported into London in 1924 by Georg Prag and carries the appropriate London 1924 hallmarks, providing an interesting piece of provenance to this charming example.
